Skills
Applicants to the major in Sustainable Processes must be professionals in related areas of knowledge with basic skills of verbal and mathematical reasoning, speaking, and writing. They have integrating abilities in critical thinking, self-directed learning, innovation, and experiments, with a marked sense of responsibility, discipline, and respect for the environment. Additionally, they possess basic knowledge of biological and physical chemistry, as well as mathematics.
Labor Market
Graduates of the major in Sustainable Processes will possess an integrating and wide knowledge on the fundamentals of science and technology, mastering the methods of experimental research within their own expertise area. They will be capable of selecting the proper methodology for solving the problems of sustainable processes, having an environmentally social commitment and responsibility. Graduating students will be highly skilled in technological and scientific research, which enables them to innovate, improve, optimize, and develop products, materials, and processes for better resource use and environmental care. Our graduates will be also able to precisely communicate the results of scientific research, as well as successfully venturing in the assessment of opportunity areas within the production, academic, public, and private sectors, for proposing alternative solutions and interacting in multidisciplinary teamwork. Furthermore, they will help develop academic leadership that promotes responsible sustainability among society according to the UANL values, facing the challenges of modern times.
Social Significance
In a constantly changing environment of increasing international competence, responding efficiently to the need for highly qualified scientists becomes essential. By means of high-level research and practice, these scientific professionals will contribute to the creation of knowledge, and its innovative application on problem solving. For this purpose, society requires quality education aimed at understanding and solving with empathetic commitment the problems of its different sectors.
Continuing Professional Development
Graduates have the opportunity to update their knowledge with a doctoral degree. The doctorate in Sustainable Processes comprises advanced courses by highly qualified professors, which can help professionals update expertise for their more competitive environments.
Operational Hazard
Professionals in sustainable processes will be exposed to operational risks relating to the products, machines, and equipment of their workplace. In laboratories, hazards are mainly associated with handling chemical products, while industrial risks include mining operations, manufacturing, transportation, electricity generation, and waste disposal, which demands careful handling due to its potentially dangerous nature.
Specific Requirements
Applicants must have related undergraduate studies and a minimum GPA of 80 out of 100. They must complete an application form and deliver the necessary documents at the Office of Student Services of our School of Graduate Studies, as well as fulfilling the enrollment requirements and complying with the entrance provisions of the UANL General Regulations of Graduate Studies and the School of Chemistry Internal Regulations.
Applicant must pass the mandatory tests: the General Knowledge Test (EXANI III, Spanish acronym), the English Proficiency Test (EXCI, Spanish acronym), the Specific Knowledge Test, a psychometric test, and an interview. For any special case, the Master Degree Committee will determine whether applicants are admitted or rejected.
