Purpose

The purpose of the doctoral degree is to educate competitive human resources for international stages, with deep knowledge, professional ethics, and social responsibility, who will be able to develop original research works in an autonomous and interdisciplinary manner, and produce results of high scientific and technological quality in the field of engineering and sutainable technology. They will propose solutions to current and future problems in academic, scientific, and industrial fields with a special emphasis on process innovation, control, optimization, and improvement, pursuing sustainability at selecting and handling raw materials, procedures, and technologies.

The major in Sustainable Processes seeks to promote and apply scientific knowledge through education, research, and liaison with different society sectors, as well as relating the research advances at UANL with the technology development of our country.

Approach

Graduates will be competitive professionals at international stages who develop original research works in an autonomous and interdisciplinary manner and produce results of high scientific and technological quality, contributing to the innovative creation and application of knowledge, which meets the challenges demanded by society at facing and solving relevant problems in academic, scientific, and industrial fields.

Skills

Applicants must have a related master degree in science, which will guarantee they possess the necessary knowledge to develop proper research work. In addition, they must be skilled in verbal-mathematical reasoning and oral-written expression, comprehensive, critic, self-learners, innovators, keen to experimentation, tenacious, and sensitive to environmental care, with a high sense of responsibility and discipline.

Labor Market

Graduates will be competitive professionals at international stages who develop original research works in an autonomous and interdisciplinary manner and produce results of high scientific and technological quality, facing and solving relevant problems in academic, scientific, and industrial fields, as well as contributing to the innovative creation and application of knowledge.
They are trained to do academic work, consulting, research, technological development, innovation, and process control, optimization and improvement, among others; therefore, they will be able to work in manufacturing, governmental, and health sectors.
In addition, graduates will be highly sensitive to environmental care, as they are trained to pursue sustainability at selecting and handling raw materials, procedures, and technologies, including the proper exploition, minimization, and disposition of industrial waste.

Social Significance

The doctoral degree in sustainable processes, based on its committment to society, comprises in its academic program the national and international requirements to offer graduate studies recognized by their quality. Thus, it strenghtens the education of researchers who will help create and apply knowledge to face the challenges demanded by society.

Continuing Professional Development

The doctoral degree in sustainable processes represents an opportunity to update knowledge with a postdoctoral degree. Graduate studies in Sustainable Processes comprises advanced courses by highly qualified professors, which can help professionals update expertise for their more competitive environments.

Operational Hazard

Graduates will be exposed to operational risks relating to the products, machines, and equipment of their workplace. In laboratories, hazards are mainly associated with handling chemical products, while industrial risks include mining operations, manufacturing, transportation, electricity generation, and waste disposal, which demands careful handling due to its potentially dangerous nature.

Specific Requirements

Applicants must have a related master of science in sustainable processes and a minimum GPA of 80 out of 100. They must complete an application form and deliver the necessary documents at the Office of Student Services of our School of Graduate Studies, as well as fulfilling the enrollment requirements and complying with the entrance provisions of the UANL General Regulations of Graduate Studies and the School of Chemistry Internal Regulations.

Applicant must pass the mandatory tests: the General Knowledge Test (EXANI III, Spanish acronym), the English Proficiency Test (EXCI, Spanish acronym), the Specific Knowledge Test, a technical English test, a psychometric test, and an interview. For any special case, the Master Degree Committee will determine whether applicants are admitted or rejected.
